Día de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to remember and honor those who have passed. Traditions surrounding the holiday include building altars using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed.

A common symbol of the holiday is the skull (in Spanish calavera), which is represented in masks and foods like, sugar skulls and pan de muerto or Day of the Dead bread. The image of the skull is a prominent symbol of this holiday and many celebrate the occasion by painting their faces with the image of a calavera for various events and festivals through out Mexico and the U.S.

HERDEZ® brand is celebrating this happy and festive holiday by hosting a face painting contest! Fans can submit a photo of their calavera face paintings for a chance to win an HERDEZ® brand Día de los Muertos prize pack featuring their favorite salsas, sugar skulls, Mexican candy and more!
